SCREW NYSC. IT’S GOING TO THE DOGS. WE HEAR, ALL THE “GOOD” H.R. PEOPLE WALKED, and ONE PARTICULAR REPLACEMENT WHO IS CALLING SOME SHOTS, IS LAUGHABLE.

to start with, the job pays minimum wage. but hey, minimum wage is better than no wage, right?

the gym? kinda dirty, yeah. but a lot of it does come down to members not picking up after themselves.

the front desk? well, there’s a reason that we’re clueless. it is very clear company policy that the front desk staff simply exists to scan your membership card and sign you up for classes. that’s it. we can only work off of the information we’re given, so if our form says there’s no sign up for a class, that’s the end of it. we don’t know membership rates. and you know what? stop calling to ask us if so-and-so is teaching a class. the class instructors set their own schedule, and are not obligated to inform the gym if they obtain a substitution. as for the steam room, take it up with the member who keeps calling the DOH and getting it shut down, because the male members (pun intended) can’t keep from… well… making sure that they get that extra relaxation in the morning.

so i think NYSC as a whole is crappy because the staff gets paid poorly and has no training or information to work with, management is never to be found (i can’t even tell you the number of times that i’ve been the highest authority in the building – as the front desk girl!), and this in turn makes for crabby members.

as for me, i’m counting down the months until i can quit.

Don’t get me wrong, SOME staff and instructors are legit.. but for the most part (thumbs down) to those “big ego spin instructors MOFO who fluff’s pillow or butter pancakes” as they pretend………….

Again, this is why the the NYSC from day one turnover rate is HIGHER than any other health club, with cancellations up the ying-yang. There’s not a day on the calendar, these idiots won’t advertise employment opportunities.

your spin story made me laugh a lil because I had a similiar situation happen to me. It was the Grand Central location. I was checking the web for spin classes and found one close to me…and it didnt show a SIGN UP…what no sign up?? weird, but I figured ok…maybe its a dead class…which was great for me because it was to be my very first spin class. i get in get my seat all set up relax talk to the people around me and then comes in the instructor….get this…with a sign up sheet. I think to myself…SHIT!!!! she was a terror. I was not the only one who looked to the website for this class, there were 3 other girls who didnt know to sign up for it. she barked at me to get off the bike I said no, those girls didnt sign up either and I was here before them. We told her the website doesnt show it as a sign up class. she didnt care, she just kept waving her sign up sheet and yelling. I told her she was being unfair and that I was here first and set up (Bows head) I gave in got off the bike, I know, I know…I should have fought, but honestly with it being my first spin class, I figured she would really kill me (and I’m in shape)and there was NO way I was gonna let her get the satisfaction of kicking my a**. so I said some choice words to her and marched to the front desk and yelled at them of course they are CLUELESS to the fact that it IS a sign up class. The guy at the desk tells the other worker at the desk to change the website now. I mean seriously….was I the ONLY one to complain about that? I think NOT. I will say that as I made my way back past the bike room to go upstairs and find a something else to workout with, one of the spinners came out to me and said…there is an extra seat if you want…I said..no thanks…I’m over it already…she tried to again to get me in, I thanked her but said honestly I cant even look at the instructor without wanting to rip her face off….did i mention I box and do kickboxing? =)

Major complaints about NYSC:

* DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY and I see people walk around BARE FOOT…(GAGS!!!)
* Management and front desk always seem confused and give alot of wrong information about classes being cancelled, if an instructor is showing up or if there is a sub. They just never seem to know what is actually going on.

Oh and my major complaint with MEMBERS….GIVE ME ROOM TO WORKOUT IN..jesus h christ….you come so close to me in class it drives me crazy…isn’t there some type of rule with personal space??? in kickboxing if your right up on top of me….YOUR GONNA GET KICKED…dont then looke at me like….you just kicked me, and then complain to the instructor. WAKE UP

Overall a gym is a gym is a gym. NYSC has lots of locations and I’m sure we all can find something we like.
